Night life in Buenos Aires is one of the most active around the world. It doesn’t start until 22.00 hs when people go out for dinner. After having eaten, the citizens usually go to a pub or coffee shop. They don’t go to discos until 02.00 a.m., or even later, when the night is most enlivened.
What the city offers is admirable: there is something different to do every day. This includes DJ cycles, live bands and concerts and discos and pubs which open their doors for the satisfaction of all of those who love to have fun. Many night time lovers even think that, nowadays, there are more things to do during the week than in the weekend. Since it may be difficult to choose from all the options that Buenos Aires has to offer, we propose here an area which is not only interesting for its historical meaning but has become an epicenter of the night life, where we can find a large number of pubs and other options to enjoy the city.

Some things you should know about it
Reconquista street is a vital thoroughfare which goes through the historical part of the city of Buenos Aires. It is also the most important street of Buenos Aires’ financial part. It was made exclusively for pedestrians on 2009 and goes through two of the most antique areas of Buenos Aires: San Nicolás (antique parish church of Catedral to the North) and Retiro. It is one of the first streets of the city, since it was routed in 1580 by the founder of Buenos Aires, the Spanish advanced don Juan de Garay. On its first block, on the east side, half a block was destined to Garay and in the other shares the other pioneers of Buenos Aires installed, who transformed as years went by in the high class of the city.

Nowadays
New and gorgeous, Reconquista Street became the epicenter of the area called Nuevo Bajo (New Down Town). Here we can find some of the most popular Irish pubs and happy hours of Buenos Aires. Besides, it is the beer center which every March 17th becomes the point of encounter of Saint Patrick’s Day celebration.

Buenos Aires lives, breathes and renews itself at night. Pubs and discos gather thousands of persons who go out looking for adventures, seduction and creativity.

Concerts, festivals, theatres, cinemas, meetings in coffee shops, “milongas” and tango houses, pubs, discotheques and bowling. It is a fact, night time activity in Buenos Aires is permanent.

Bárbaro Bar o Bar (Bohemian)

Founded in 1969 by the prestigious painter Luis Felipe Noe, father of the recognized film director Gaspar Noe, this is a quite peculiar bar. It bohemian environment surprises us with great art exhibitions and many other cultural activities. Declared of general interest by the Buenos Aires’ City Hall, it has a long menu of whisikies and excellent Spanish food. Some of the dishes that made this bar famous are the “mondongo” (entrails), lentils and the Spanish tortilla (similar to an omelette). It has flamenco music and dancing shows on Fridays and Saturdays. Besides, it offers film projections and documentaries about the topic. You can’t miss its happy hour from 20 to 21 hours.

Dadá (Art)

What highlights in this bar is the good taste in the decoration, which has a modern design even though the environment gives us the sensation of being in a place of half of this century. Every kind of drinks and foods are possible in this pub. Little but with great attractive, it results very creative not only because of its cuisine but for its environment in general. Located in the area of the Nuevo Bajo and near the Microcentro there is Dadá. You can discover a simple and esthetic place with its own signature which shelters creative people, plastic artists and painters in its selected group of friends. Its proposal, which doesn’t go unnoticed, also receives under tourists from every part of the world. The bar is very well-stocked and has a curious variety of vodkas.

Down Town Matías (British)

Open since November 1999, Down Town Matias turns out to be “The First Pub In Down Town” due to all of its characteristics y for being truly down town (Bajo).
Down Town Matias is a very British pub where many people go after office to drink a variety of beers and over 100 kinds of whiskies. At midday or at night you can taste its international cuisine. It is an ideal place to go with friends, play darts and listen to good live music; blues, jazz, soul, rock and Celtic music can’t be missed from Wednesday to Saturdays. Its Happy Hour is from 18 to 23 hs from Mondays to Fridays and on Saturdays from 18 to 24 hs.

Druid Inn (Celtic)

Pioneers in the true Celtic style, the Druid Inn was the first bar in Buenos Aires to enliven its rooms with Irish, Scotch and Galician music. Dishes such as the roast beef with Yorkshire pudding can’t be missed among its specialties. For the lovers of good drinking, this pub on Reconquista Street proposes thirteen beer dispensers and a hundred varieties of whisky of the best British brands. Darts and Celtic music bands that play every Friday night offer an extra attraction for tourists and regular clients. Druid Inn is an exclusive member of the night circuit of Buenos Aires.

The Kilkenny (Celtic)

On the corner of M. T. Alvear and Reconquista Streets works The Kilkenny, a true Celtic pub where you can enjoy the prestigious Guinness beer in its multiple varieties. Attractive at first sight because of the so characteristically British covering of its façade, this pub concentrates hundreds of tourists and Buenos Aires citizens (porteños) every night. Inside, several boxes that give intimacy to the different groups of friends or couples join to the circular bar and to a room with an appearance of a prehistoric cave. The waiters and bartenders give the pub an informal, friendly, and fun atmosphere. At night you can enjoy excellent bands of Celtic music playing live. Every March 17th, when St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated, The Kilkenny prepares itself to party and it turns out to be a touristic attraction that can’t be missed.
